Welcome to Li's Illusions

What's Li's Illusions?  Dictionary defined illusion as "something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality." When you are watching a movie, reading a book, or playing a video game, you are taken to a different place illustrated by the author/creator/director.  I like to think of them as illusions.  There are many illusions in this world.  I would like to share some of my favorites with you here.  Enjoy your stay!

To 3D or Not 3D

When I first saw Avatar in 3D IMAX, I was so impressed by how immersive it made me feel.  Whenever possible, I would choose to watch 3D version of the film in theaters rather than the 2D version.  I believe the extra cost was worth it.  3D viewing at home is also available by use of 3D TV / projector with 3D content.  In 2016, I purchased a 3D projector and was so impressed with its performance that I no longer feel the need to go to movie theater but just buy the 3D version of the film once it is released on Blu-Ray.  However, it seems the 3D train has not catch on.  3D contents has declined while 4K UHD are on the rise.  So I would ask you what your thoughts are on 3D.  Do you like viewing in 3D?

It seems you want to read more into the 3D content.  When I first bought the projector, I had only one 3D movie in my movie collection which was Prometheus.  I tested it on 125" screen and was so impressed with it.  That made me want to get more 3D version of the 2D movies I own and new releases.  Not all movies released in 3D are filmed in native 3D.  Some are converted.  The converted films are not as good as the films shoot with 3D cameras.  Here I will rate the 3D movies I have and give you an idea which are good to own and which are better to just get the 2D version to save the money.  The main thing I look for are the pop out effect (how much object come toward you), depth (how much object goes behind the screen), and how watchable it is in 3D.  The score of 1 is no 3D and 5 is excellent 3D.  Pop back here often as I will update it when I get more 3D movies.

Today is yesterday's victory, yesterday is tomorrow's conquest, and tomorrow is today's war. Though I face death, I am not fearsome.
