I use to think they were scars like the musician Seal has on his face.

His scars are from his lupus disease.

It must be facial scarification, a very normal practice in some countries in Africa.

This could be possible. Stardust Crusaders is from 93 and Seal is in activity since 89. Araki draws his inspirations from appearances too. Look how Kira looks like Bowie. And the Gangster that saved Giorno looks like Michael Jackson.

Stardust Crusaders started in 89, before Seal got famous. ;)

Speaking of J. Geil, how'd he pull this off?

Me thinks this is a retcon of some sorts.

His stand was above him, that's why the water is "bouncing off" like this.

I always figured that getting a Stand fucks with your appearance a bit, like those markings are a side effect of him having Magician's Red.

You know, I would LOVE to see someone try and figure out who Abdul was, like what was his childhood like? I always had this headcanon that he was born and raised by Muslim parents(I'm pretty sure Egypt had a pretty significant Muslim population even during the eighties) but, out of fear that he was possessed by a demon, he abandoned Islam and ran away from home, making a living as a fortune teller or something.

Of course, my theory would fall flat if it turns out names like Muhammad/Mohammad are as common as John is here in the US.

The name Mohammed is as common as John is simply because it's a predominantly Muslim country. It's the most common given name in the world.
