Trish needs more love

Postby Rosetti » Fri Jun 07, 2013 11:15 pm

This is a thread for the sake of opinions, and I ain't tryna force mine on anyone.

But this is to say, I've seen some not taking quite a liking to Trish Una. I really like her, because she was a character that started off a little bratty, but then proved her worth by taking on an invincible Stand. IMO, her Stand is incredibly versatile, and strong. She also gains trust for and from her teammates, proving to be an equal member among the boys.

She overcame her weakness of heart, and still didn't just up and run to hiding, even when she new why her father was out to get her.

And her hair is pink, one of the best colors on earth.

As a side note, I'm crossing my fingers for her appearance in All Star Battle

Now, let the rebuttals or agreements begin.

She's a cutie pie, that's for sure, but I don't think her transition from bratty to strong willed is very good. She just gets so little panel time despite how long she's actually around for. I read Vento Aureo after Steel Ball Run and I couldn't shake the thought of how much more of a badass Lucy Steel is after all the crap she goes through, she is set up as a damsel but is fighting tooth and nail just to survive and rescue her husband. With Trish she's protected for almost half the manga and barely has a discernable character beyond stuck up princess type. I did like the Notorious BIG fight, but even then Spice Girl had to hold her hand throughout the entire fight, its like Spice Girl did the development for her. Then to top it all off we really don't learn much about her past or how she is or isn't like her father, I felt this was just a missed opportunity on Araki's part. I think she's easily the least developed female character in part 2-8. I don't hate her, doubt many people do, she's not unlikable, just doesn't leave much impression I guess.

She suffers the same fate as more or less everyone else in part 5. They get overshadowed by Bucciarati and Mista. She would have needed another fight or something to show more of what she could do, but no.

She is not as developed as Mista and Buccalatti but I would not say that there is not enough about her to bear some liking to her . She starts as mysterious character that we do not know much about and is related to the boss . She is a bit bratty but she befriends the gang with herself quickly and when it turns out that her papa wants to kill her Narancia basically goes with them because of her . Even tough she joined the gang later than Giorno she did not have to prove herself and everyone took her as their own . Even tough she never wanted to join a mafia she knew what to do and even risked her life few times .

I consider Trish basically an interesting plot device early on. She had potential, and since it was focused on protecting her I was following the exploits of Bruno, Narancia, Mista, Abbachio, Fugo and Giorno. I didn't have time to really pay attention to how there just wasn't much to her, but the 2nd half of the story I just think she falls completely flat, the Notorious BIG arc just feels like it comes a bit too late in the story, I just wanted more insight to her character I guess.

I think Mista, Narancia, Abbacchio, and Fugo all have plenty of time to shine despite how awesome Buccellati is but Giorno, followed by Trish were always the sour character points of the arc for me, it was most apparent during the Ghiacchio and King Crimson chapters with Giorno for me, and during the final arc with Trish and Giorno. Some of the scenes with Trish and Mista together are kinda cute though, I am hoping the newer translation might slightly boost my thoughts on their characters even if its just a little.

I think it's good to give the kid some credit. Most of the face time she got was basically her being told to stay out of the way- she was made to be the 'stuck up princess type' because she was put in that position. Team Buccalatti was told to deliver her safely so they couldn't really treat her any other way. And I mean hey, if I was being escorted on a silver platter I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get my hands dirty. As for the Notorious BIG fight it wouldn't be fair to say Spice Girl did all the work; I mean for the first half okay, but after it reappeared Trish didn't hesitate to dash into the cockpit on her own accord to do her thing
She also helped prevent Diavolo from getting the arrow in the end, so kudos to her
Sure she could have gone through more development, but I never disliked her because of it not happening since it seemed natural given the context. On a side note I too would have liked to see more done with her blood connection with Diavolo- I mean beyond the I CAN FEEL HIS PRESENCE, HE'S CLOSE. The idea of her inheriting schizophrenia would have been really cool and I'm upset these sorts of things weren't expanded on. Here's hoping there's an Araki in another universe that has written a Trish and daddy Diavolo one shot that he'd be willing to share here :gyro2

Well, unfortunately, you guys are right about her being overshadowed by other members. But she still has her own unique qualities, that let her stand on her own as a good character IMO

I mostly agree with you Brandino, the story just doesn't "allow" her to do very much till the BIG fight, where she is pretty cool.

If only it was Trish's Bizarre Adventure :P
And I'm not sure how much more Araki could flesh her out to be honest; I mean she went from whiny selfish baby to hardcore selfless(?) bad ass all in one mini arc. By the end, she willingly risked her life to prevent Diavolo from getting the arrow- something the original Trish would never have dreamed of doing [granted she wouldn't have known her dad was an asshole but hopefully you get what I mean] Also she's a minor character and compared to others I think she got her fair bit of screen time being all whiny and fierce and some times even dead.
Still, I'd be lying if I didn't say I was interested in some sort of side story where it shows Trish and the gang after the happenings of Vento Aureo. A Diavolo no Daibouken type thing but from Trish's point of view would be awesome.

Did it say if she stayed with Giorno and Passione or did she go off to live a (fairly) normal flamboyant gangster free life

Nothing was mentioned after they went back to the coliseum. In the very end you can see Mista and turtle Polnareff with Giorno at Passione, but no Trish- though something tells me she's still part of the gang. I mean it really doesn't take much to be a member- take Polpo for example. He just sat around and ate all day and he was an operative. Sticking with Passione would have a lot more benefit for her; minimal work with lots of money and protection etc.
Still, she might have decided not to stick around and move back to her moms old place and live her flamboyant gangstar free life off her dads savings? That's why I really want a canon side story of sorts to know for sure. Come on Araki, what are you waiting for. :jotaro
