The philosophy of Abbacchio's partner

Postby Kira Kira » Fri Jan 01, 2016 7:33 pm

So I was wondering, what does Abbacchio's partner say in the statement below?

「そうだな・・・・・・ わたしは『結果』だけを求めてはいない。 『結果』だけを求めていると、人は近道をしたがるものだ・・・・・・近道をした時、真実を見失うかもしれない。やる気もしだいに失せていく」

I know the general gist of it - that only seeking results leads you to take shortcuts, leading you lose sight of truth/reality and thus motivation as well - and how it's meant to be an allegorical criticism of Diavolo's philosophy and kind of ties in with Giorno's speech about reality before he
kills Diavolo with GER
but, since we still have the shitty scans, I was wondering what an accurate translation of this scene would be.
"The patterned juggler lifts his hand; the orchestra begin.
As slowly turns the grinding wheel, in the Court of the Crimson King."

Don't really have time to check the greater context and refine it further, but:

"That's right.... I'm not one that just seeks "results". If people just seek "results", it's the same as just wanting a shortcut. When you take a shortcut, you may lose sight of the truth. Your motivation will gradually disappear."

Ah, I see. Thanks again for your translations, man.

That is a pretty lit and strong quote. Hope the anime does it justice.

It's not the anime itself you have to worry about, it's how Crunchyroll subs it.

CR's translates a lot of thing literally, so people get confused what is being said. It happened a lot when I was watching DiU anime-only live reactions. I would be really disappointed if the weight of that quote and its ties to both Diavolo and Giorno are lost on sub-watchers.
