Same as Part 4, discounting Koichi, Jotaro etc...

(1) Bruno Buccellati.
(2) Guido Mista.
(3) Pannacotta Fugo
(4) Risotto Nero
(5)...Coco Jumbo

Honorary Mention: Everyone else for being as equally forgettable.

Haha, very funny Joker.

1) Giorno Giovanna, really interesting protagonist in reality, but everyone wants to get spoonfed "characterization" with lots of caricatural facial expressions and shouts, of course he's not gonna be liked a lot...
2) Bruno Buccellati, a great white knight, also an awesome leader.
3) Mista, loving the rough, but sometimes insecure personality.
4) Ghiaccio, ice power man, ice power.
5) Diavolo, the Boss. Also a well-written personality, and a definitely impressive antagonist.

The enemy Stand users were very one note and forgettable. Don't get me started on Giorno and Diavolo...

Part 5 was a side story that can just be skipped and nothing will be missed, other than Dio having a son (setting up the his other sons in Part 6) and Diavolo discovering the arrows.

I do like that side of Golden Wind. Spin-off story.

1) Buccellati, for being a near-universally appealing, charismatic protagonist with a brilliant character design and the most resolve of any character in the series. The bond he has with his team, and with which he uses to unite them under his cause, is admirable, and I really like his character arc – especially his fight with Diavolo.
2) Doppio. I just really like the contrast between how mild-mannered he can seem at times and his vicious outbursts of rage, not to mention his fascinating relationship with Diavolo.
3) Abbacchio, because his backstory resonates with me and his Stand ability is such a perfect match for his past and his personality as well. Plus, his interactions with Giorno are priceless.
4) Ghiaccio. My favourite member of La Squadra, for his continual irritation at the various oddities of language, his awesome Stand, and his fight with Giorno and Mista ranking up there with the train battle as one of the best.
5) Trish. Best girl. Loved her subtle friendship with Narancia, and her love/hate relationship with Buccellati. I really do wish we got to see more of her Stand in action.

However, my opinions on the characters in Part 5 tend to shift slightly from time to time. I think each member of the escort team (Buccellati's gang) are great in their own right and bounce nicely off each other in their own ways.

Yes. Even Giorno. I've started to like him a lot recently, especially after the White Album fight. And Purple Haze Feedback is a goldmine for characterisation, obviously especially for Fugo (who was more underwhelming than Giorno in Part 5, IMO).

(I do think, however, that Mista is somewhat overrated - his backstory never really clicked with me, and I still can't decide whether his outfit belongs to the "so bad it's good" camp or the "just bad" camp - and Narancia is kind of an annoying brat outside of battle.)

The majority of the La Squadra members are arguably less one-note than the tarot card enemy Stand users in Part 3.

Can't forgive what Araki did to Polnareff.
He should have also done a better job with the gangster setting aswell.

Agreed. Polnareff barely even felt like Polnareff anymore. I know he's twelve years older, so he would've matured, but Joseph in Part 4 still felt like the same character from Part 2 (e.g. his "OH! MY! GOD!" moment after discovering Shizuka; putting too much make-up on Shizuka; risking his life to save Shizuka; being a fan of Rohan's comic Pink Dark Boy).

Polnareff in Part 5 could've been replaced with almost anyone - Jotaro himself, even - and almost nothing would've changed. I understand that Part 4 may've had more opportunity for characterisation due to its slice-of-life format/laidback narrative structure, but I'm just saying, it really shows how last-minute Polnareff's inclusion to Part 5 was. The only thing I liked about Polnareff's reappearance was that I actually prefer his design in Part 5 for whatever reason, and I liked getting to see Silver Chariot again.

And the whole thing kind of stopped feeling like a gangster epic once the plot devolved into "travel -> get delayed by assassin fight -> travel", with little to no variation between the two. Apart from Formaggio and Prosciutto, there was little to distinguish the assassins from the majority of minor antagonists in Part 3, who occupied a similar role of merely serving as a plot-irrelevant obstacle for the antagonists to overcome before moving on to their next destination - only, this time, Part 5 didn't really deserve such a simplistic format.

The way Part 6 and 7 did it felt considerably less linear and monotonous.

Does every mention of Part 5 have to devolve into baseless rant?

1.) Diavolo
2.) Mista
3.) Giorno
4.) Abbacchio or Trish
5.) Bruno

I had only read the bad scans but even then I still loved Part 5. The minor characters are even really likeable, Like Ghacchio (?) or Melone.
