So far it really seems like it looks fine when they have the more detailed close-up models on but the ones they use for action are really meh.

No gameplay, but what we all suspected is confirmed. Dynasty Warriors: Berserk or Berserk Warriors or whatever they'll end up calling it.

They're skipping out the lost children arc, which is the shortest arc comprised of 23 episodes.... :giornod

Honestly I don't even have much to say after the episode. It was about expected.

I thought it was an awesome way for them to start since they're skipping the black swordsman and lost children arc.

After watching the first two I'm enjoying it. The CG animation looks a little weird when standing still but looks good for the action scenes. Overall it's making me more excited for the warriors game!

The CGI is alright, just one issue I have is the nonexistant tits.

what's even the point of this adaptation if it's skipping black swordsmen and lost children?

The CGI for this show is abysmal, however I am grateful to finally see it animated after so long.

i think it looks ok, the animation and fight choreography more than make up for it. too bad it starts in the middle of conviction and changes a ton of stuff.

It didn't start out that well and skipped major parts of the manga, but after episode 3-4 it's really been getting back on track and has only been improving. Episode 7 was really great and they've slowed down the pacing aswell, and seem to be following the Conviction arc very closely to the manga counterpart. This scene in particular was done beautifully:

I must be the only person on Earth to prefer the new anime to the old one. (I've never read the manga though)

but... why? The manga is the only way to experience Berserk. Not only would it be a difficult manga to adapt even in the right hands, but the adaptions we have gotten are notoriously some of the worst adaptions in popular anime culture.

The biggest reason is I don't like reading scans so I can only do it for a few minutes at a time.

Manga is the only way to go, though the 1997 anime isn't terrible. I'm not someone who will tell people who are primarily anime only people to read manga. I do tend to prefer the original source material (whatever that may be) over any adaptions, but I understand why people might prefer to watch an anime over reading a manga.

That being said, Berserk does not have good anime adaptions, and if you want anywhere near the full Berserk experience you'll have to read the manga for a majority of it anyway, so might as well start with that from the beginning.

The 1997 does not start at the beginning of the series, which ruins one of Berserk's best narrative tricks. While the first 3 volumes of Berserk are probably the worst part of the series, they are invaluable in providing the set up for the Golden Age arc which comes next. Not onl does the 1997 anime not start at the beginning, but it only adapts 1 arc. It does a half decent job of adapting said arc, but still skips out on a lot of good content, and doesn't handle the subtleties of some moments with nearly as much tact as its manga counter part.

So all things said, Berserk I will 100% always say manga > the anime. Like, it's not even close in my mind. This is not your typical case of a bad anime adaption.
